Creating lab-grown diamonds

HPHT- High Pressure- High Temperature Method

In HPHT method, diamond formation takes place within massive pressure cookers, where a small diamond seed is placed into a piece of carbon. Then the pressure cooker is heated to 1500Ā°C and pressurised to approximately 70,000 times atmospheric pressure.

CVD- Chemical Vapour Deposition Method

CVD, like HPHT, uses a small diamond seed. This seed is placed in sealed chambers of the vacuum plasma reactors. In this method, a growth cell is filled with thin diamond plates, and hydrocarbon gas is injected into the reactor. The gas molecules of the gas are broken apart by high-powered microwaves and carbon atoms precipitate onto the diamond plates, vertically growing them atom by atom.
